Neko

series: Sumikko Gurashi

Neko (ねこ) is a light tan/yellow calico cat. It is close with Tokage because Tokage catches fish for it. Its Minikko buddy is Zassou. It has 2 siblings, Gray Neko and Tora (orange tabby) Neko.

Neko has a very shy personality and often scratches the walls when it feels embarrassed or anxious. It's very sensitive to others' needs and wishes which can sometimes cause it to give up its own spot in the corner. It loves food and likes to hide inside cat food cans. The only food it doesn't like is mandarin oranges due to having lived in an orange box as a stray kitten. It's self-conscious about its chubbiness and tries to exercise. Neko also likes caring for plants, which is how it got its buddy Zassou. It also hides in drawstring bags and is often seen with a coin purse when out with the other Sumikkos, suggesting it is responsible for managing their money.

Penguin?

Penguin? (ぺんぎん？) appears to be a small light green penguin. It's unsure whether it's actually a penguin (it's similar to the kappa, a mythical Japanese creature, but it never guesses this). It's always questioning and searching for its identity. Its Minikko buddy is Yellow Tapioca.

Penguin? has a self-centered personality which sometimes leads to minor friction with other Sumikkos. It's also inquisitive and is often seen investigating things with a magnifying glass and/or carrying a book. It enjoys reading and listening to music. It loves eating cucumbers and watermelons. It's often targeted by the robotic arm that appears to pick up and move the Sumis.
